Former Executive Assistant George Kaplan Testimony About Violence, Cash, and Control
May 21 George Kaplan
George Kaplan was given full immunity today since he was going to invoke the 5th amendment not to incriminate himself.
During testimony in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ ongoing federal trial, former executive assistant George Kaplan detailed his employment history with Combs Enterprises under questioning by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ms. Comey.
Ms. Comey asked Kaplan how he came to work for the company and how long he remained employed there. Kaplan explained that he had been working at Nickelodeon as an Executive Assistant to Brian Offutt, Senior Vice President of Creative Operations.
When Mr. Offutt transitioned from Nickelodeon to Combs Enterprises to take on the role of Chief Operating Officer, Kaplan followed and joined him as his Executive Assistant. His salary base was $125,000.
Kaplan’s role at Combs Enterprises was primarily administrative. He worked with the company from December 2013 to December 2015. In September 2014, Kaplan took on a new title as Executive Assistant to the Chairman, Mr. Sean Combs himself, a role he held until his departure in December 2015.
While working directly for Mr. Combs, Kaplan reported to Ms. Khorram, often referred to as “KK,” who he testified “essentially ran Mr. Combs’ life.”
May 22-George Kaplan Direct Examination Continued
Kaplan testified that he saw a medicine bag, described as a Dopp kit, filled with various prescriptions, ketamine, and pills. He also described being asked to deliver bags of cash. One instance in 2015 where he passed off $50,000 after flying on Combs’ private jet. Other times where he retrieved $10,000 via Western Union addressed to Combs Enterprises.
One of the most disturbing moments Kaplan recalled occurred during a private flight to Las Vegas. He heard glass shatter and turned to see Combs standing over Cassie Ventura in the plane’s bedroom. Cassie, visibly distressed, yelled, “Isn’t anybody seeing this?” though no one intervened. More glass broke as chaos continued.
Another time, at Combs’ L.A. home, Kaplan saw visible bruises on Cassie’s forehead and near her eye. He was instructed by Mr. Combs to buy lotion remedies, including witch hazel, using his corporate card. Later he found that mixing everything made an anti-swelling remedy.
Kaplan said the violent behavior he witnessed, both toward Cassie and another girlfriend, Gina, was a key reason he left the job.
He described an incident in Miami where Combs allegedly threw green apples at Gina, followed by her screaming later that night. “I couldn’t be part of this anymore,” he said.
Cross-Examination: Gratitude and Complexity
Under cross-examination by defense attorney Marc Agnifilo, Kaplan spoke of his admiration for Combs as a business leader. “Working with Mr. Combs made my world so much bigger in such a short period of time. The amount of knowledge that I gained from both a business perspective, but also just in a way of living was so much every day that it was almost like drinking from a fire hose, not in a bad way, but in a particularly overwhelming way that in many ways was positive.”
Mr. Kaplan credited Combs with shaping his career and said he still applies those lessons today, even calling him “a God among men.”
