Cinco de Mayo! The air is buzzing with the promise of celebration – vibrant colors, lively music, and the delicious aroma of festive food. While traditionally commemorating the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, here at Sugar Feather Farm, we find joy in embracing the spirit of community, resilience, and the beauty of life, much like the spirit of that historic day.

Instead of sombreros and mariachi bands (though we appreciate them!), our Cinco de Mayo takes on a distinctly Sugar Feather Farm flavor. Imagine this: the sun dappling through the leaves of our ancient apple trees, casting a warm glow on our flock of curious chickens as they peck happily in the pasture. The gentle cooing of our doves provides a soothing soundtrack, a peaceful counterpoint to the usual Cinco de Mayo revelry.

Our celebration might not involve a piñata, but it certainly involves the bounty of the land. We think of the vibrant hues of the peppers and tomatoes that will soon ripen in our garden, the same rich colors that adorn traditional Mexican celebrations. We appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into nurturing our farm, much like the determination of the people of Puebla.

This Cinco de Mayo, we invite you to connect with the simple joys around you. Perhaps it’s the vibrant bloom of a spring flower, the cheerful chirping of birds, or the satisfaction of tending to your own little patch of earth, however small.

While you’re enjoying your tacos and margaritas, take a moment to appreciate the spirit of resilience and community that Cinco de Mayo represents. And maybe, just maybe, picture our fluffy Orpington hens strutting around like they’re part of their own grand parade!
